2Want great earbuds? Keep looking. Because  Jul 10, 2010 By MagnumOpus_of_Chaos
I'm what you call an audiophile. I always search for the best music (but this is subjective) and the highest quality earbuds, because I am always on the go and want my music to sound as good and detailed as possible (this is what an audiophile actually is). So when I came across these earbuds, after going through the reviews, they seemed amazing and perfect for what I'm looking for. Well, "seemed" is definitely the key word here. I bought a pair (thanks to those reviews), got them, and was massively disappointed. Why though? Surely those reviews can't be wrong? False. I think most of those reviews are fake because they seem too identical, and not very well written at all. Overall, like I said, I was massively disappointed. Here's why.

For one, the sound is good but nothing special at all (I give it a 2.5/5 stars). Not nearly as good as it's made out to be on this site. I usually look for a good bass response, but the bass is not very strong at all, and I really have to turn up my iPod to hear the music/sound well. I shouldn't have to do this.

Secondly, there are a lot of different sized white earbud tips, but in my opinion, none of them fit comfortably in my ear, even though I've tried them all. I also want to mention that the earbuds themselves ruin the sound; in other words, the sound sounds more distorted and drowned out, especially if you put on those cone tips. The earbuds also absolutely SUCK at reducing noise.

This next issue of mine may not be a bother you, but it is a big bother for me. The cable is not long enough. I tend to put my iPod in my pocket and keep it there while I'm out somewhere and listening to music along the way (I'm usually on the go these days), and it drags the earbuds right out of my ears because of the short cord. As a result, I have to keep putting the earbuds back in my ear while holding the iPod in my pocket. I shouldn't have to do this either. Gets really, REALLY annoying after a while.

And last but not least, they're way overpriced. I realize they're gold (most likely not even real gold), but because of the reasons above, there's no way these are worth [...], ESPECIALLY not worth [...]. They're worth [...] at the most. Seriously.

All in all, I definitely regret buying these have already returned them, because I know there are better AND cheaper earbuds out there. When I got my refund for these pathetic excuses of earbuds, a smile grew on my face. And that smile isn't going anywhere unless these things come near me again.

Thanks for reading. :)

2Could be a lot better for the MSRP  Nov 28, 2010 By Kurt W. Beyerchen Jr. "kurt"
I thought I had to come on here and write a review that isn't paid for. Doesn't anyone find it odd that many of these 5-star reviews have reviewed many other J-Lab products, all at 5 stars (Louise Weissman). And a few just happened to buy the same products (like the Your Family Heirloom reviews from AC and Gagne). Every 5-star review on here is highly suspect to me and, while I'll grant that some may be real, there is no way every single one is an honest review. So how about MY honest review:

I received a pair of these for review on my website when they launched, and unfortunately I found that they perform far worse than their [...] price tag implies. It was clear from day 1 that they never intended to charge that much for the headphones, they just put it at that price so they would seem more high end.

The headphones themselves are actually quite durable feeling. Made of machined aluminum and plastic, they feel quite nice. The flange connecting the cable and the headphone is well done and they don't feel weak or fragile in any way. They are a bit light, but nice. The cable itself is soft and rubbery, but a bit thin. Unfortunately, there is no cable slider like the J3s had. All in all, the construction of the headphones is quite good. The included case is generally well constructed as well, but a bit thick for my taste - it won't fit comfortably in my pocket like the case for my Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4s.

As for sound quality...it's not great. I burned them in for 30 hours, which is what JLabs recommends. I even used their suggested sound clips to do so. After that I received sound that is more appropriate in the [...] range for headphones. This means there was a low, responsive bass and tight highs - certainly crowd pleasers. In the middle, however, it was a muddy mess. They handle hip-hop pretty well, but when it comes to guitar-driven rock it becomes nearly unbearable. Jack White and Eugene Hutz's voices completely drown into the guitar and you nearly can't hear them. Electronica or drum & bass sound pretty good though, so if that's what you like, these aren't terrible - sound wise.

As for noise isolation, don't listen to the other reviewers. The "70 year old" whose hearing is slipping claims that he can't hear his wife when he's listening to music. I blame this more on his slipping hearing (though, more likely he's a J-Lab employee who isn't 70). Certainly he isn't talking about the noise isolation quality of the headphones, because it's terrible. You can't get a good seal with the included tips, so you are left with a lot of room for outside sound to get in (like the guy who gave it 5 stars said, you can hear wind getting in). I walked down the street with them and I could hear conversations around me very clearly. I tried to use them on an airplane, but I couldn't hear my music. It wasnt until I switched to my other pair that I could continue listening.

Beyond that, these phones aren't comfortable to wear AT ALL. That neat machine cut faceted aluminum cut into my ears on the back edge after about 15 minutes of use.

There is no way I can recommend these headphones to anyone over the many other quality headphones at this price point (and ESPECIALLY at the retail price point). You aren't getting a [...] set of ear buds for [...]. You are getting a [...] set of ear buds for [...]. You'd be better off buying a pair of J-Lab J2 and a [...] pair of Boqari underwear modeled on their website so ridiculously by the company's founder.

1Disappointed  Jan 01, 2011 By Ben Schuler
To whom is looking to have some new head phones.... Understand what your looking for first! Don't be tricked by the price of these. I was thinking they must be heavy duty, great range and not sound canceling but reducing for sure.... To be completely honest, I might as well just use my iPhone head phones which work almost as well.
They don't have a great range of sound, the base is like hitting a card board box, they seem to be pretty durable though but the sound eliminating aspect is ok but there are better ones on the market!! I did purchase these and had to return them cause I was so disappointed so that is why I had to take the time to post this.
Hope this will help in your search to find some good head phones!

1Overpriced OK pair of ear buds  Jun 05, 2011 By BklynBoy
I own many ear buds. Mostly because I like to try many out and see the differences in sound quality. I purchased these because I have a pair of JBud J3 ear buds that are really good. Since these were related to the JBud company and they appear to be advertised as "flagship" ear buds, I figured I could not go wrong. I was definitely wrong. They do not have the sensitivity (not that loud) that the J3 and other ear buds do. Furthermore, they have a drastically lower sensitivity at lower frequencies (bass response is non-existent). Many other reviewers on Amazon have said the same thing and I ignored them because I figured they did not know what they were talking about. My bad for thinking I knew better. Read the other reviews and believe what you read. These are no better than my pair of Lift Audio Groove ear buds for which I paid $10 shipped.
Now that I have bashed these, let me recommend some other ear buds...

My personal two favorites: JBud J3 and Radius Atomic Bass I (I don't own the second gen of the Radius so I can't offer any recommendations on the second gen).

Good ear buds: MEE M9 (lower sensitivity that J3 or Atomic Bass, so if you are looking for loud headphones, the look elsewhere - really good for $13 bucks though) and Lift Audio Groove, which sound unbelievable for $10.

Ok ear buds: V-Moda Bass too bad they have a low reliability (break all the time). I purchased 6 pairs as Christmas gifts. Only one was working by the end of 6 months.

All of the ear buds above sounded better than the Boqari Q1, in my humble opinion. Furthermore, all the ear buds above cost less than the Boqari Q1.

Anyhow, I would like to review the JBud J4 ear buds, but I'm afraid to shell out my own cash now. JBud, if you want me to review the J4 please provide me with a "review set" and I'll add them into this review and put a review on the J4 product page. I will return them when I'm done. Pleave a comment on whom to contact.

My credentials: BSEE from Polytechnic University, MSEE from URI and currently in a PHD program at URI. Oh and 19 years working as an EE.

5Great quality earbuds for the price!  Dec 27, 2010 By Goalie28
I did some research and some people are complaining about the quality of the sound... Most people do not know that your supposed to visit their website and (warm) the headphones to get the ultimate sound... And by that I mean they have a program which will run through all different sounds but make sure your sound is not set to max it has to be medium. Your supposed to do it for 5 hours a day until you reach the max hours. But once that happens the sound out of these things are amazing.

Overall 10/10 for this product
