Great Case Oct 12, 2010
By BruceH I ordered a 5th gen iPod Nano and while going through the reviews, I read that they are easy to scratch. It seemed a case would be a good idea. I also read a comment saying that they will even scratch in a leather case, so I went with this hard case.
It appears there are a couple of versions of the hard clear cases. I went with this one that has the cut-out for the screen. I figured the full cover version would have to much screen glare. I think I made the right choice now that I received the product.
There are cut-outs for the screen, controls, camera lens, earphone jack, connector plug and slide lock switch. I have no problem operating any of the controls or connecting the Apple supplied plug. (An aftermarket plug may not fit if it does not match the Apple molding.)
The fit for the Nano and the cover halves (front and back) are tight. I first thought the Nano did not fit, but after flexing the case a little, it fit right into the front half. I could not get the two halves to fasten at all four corners on the first attempt. The secret is to remember the plastic case is somewhat flexible. Push against the two long edges to add just a little bit of curve to the back case, and it snaps right in to place. As I learned from another review, the case can be taken apart by popping open one of the corners, then slide the round end of a small paper clip down the open seam from the open end down to the closed end. That will pop the second corner and the case will open. I do not have any problems of the case coming apart on its own.
The case works exactly as expected. It offers excellent protection to everything it covers and I can operate the Nano without any problems. It took a couple of minutes to get everything to fit just right, but after doing it the first time, I can now fit it without any issues.
This particular model does not cover the screen, so that means the screen is not protected by the case. I addressed this issue by getting one of those thin inexpensive generic vinyl/plastic screen protectors. It works great. There will be a little more glare on the screen, but it not noticeable once the unit backlight is turned on. (Some of the reviews for the screen protectors complained about the paper install tabs sticking to the protector, but I did not have that problem.)
I also bought a leather case for added protection when I have the Nano in my pocket full of coins, keys, and other assorted hardware! This is one of those thin leather cases with the cover flap along the top edge. The Nano with the hard case will just slide into the leather case, but it is a tight fit. This causes problems for the folding cover since the hinge area is not quite thick enough to accommodate the additional thickness of the plastic case. I addressed this issue by bending the leather cover just past the hinge. It is not the perfect solution, but it works.
An earlier review said the case was junk. I do not understand that. The case does exactly what it claims to do. I can only guess the reviewer had problems fitting the case, but unfortunately, the review does not offer an explanation for the poor rating. The case does not come with any instructions so that may contribute to the issues encountered by the reviewer. The case certainly is not junk and it only cost a penny! You can not expect more for under three bucks shipped.
(The Amazon supplier for mine was eForcity and they have always provided great service for me.)

Great to protect your ipod from scratches Feb 23, 2011
By Alejandro Rubio Lozano I decided to buy this piece after my son threw my ipod from the 6th floor... it survived, except for the hold button. The case is hard enough to resist heavy falls and keeps the ipod`s surface safe. the countepart is that as long as the days go throug , the case cathches a little film of dust between the ipod and the plastic cover, but is easy to solution , opening the case, and cleaning once in a while. the other counterpart is that the lower border of the case is too narrow, so it doesnt`t allow to connect phones different from the ultra thin jack that comes with the iphone. i solutioned this by making a little notch in the plastic , and it worked. Comparing to the other cases, plastic , silicone, rubber, etc .. i sill thik this is the best option for all around and heavy user.
