5Unbelievable  Jun 21, 2009 By Matthew V. Taylor "ALittleHazey"
I've never used an fm transmitter before because i've read review's for even the most expensive ones and the quality is supposed to be noticeably worse.
I couldn't afford a new cd player yet so this was just to hold me over, and after hearing it play i've decided against getting a cd player at all. The sound quality is excellent, it sounded just like it would on the radio, the transmitter seems to be very well made along with looking very nice to boot, and the price is unbelievable.

The neck, side grips and supports on the bottom are highly adjustable, which to my surprise makes me feel safe putting my iphone in it and driving down a dirt road.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone shopping for an fm transmitter, save $30+ and get quality.

1Knock off that dosent work well  Aug 19, 2009 By John
This is a knock off of the Canadian Drive Safe unit, it cost only a few dollars more and worth every single penny!

[...]
Sound quality is poor and if you live in or near any city or town with more than 5 radio stations, be prepared to have to change the channel every 30 seconds.

Sides that hold the iPhone are cheaply made and don't even hold the phone well at all. You have to either squeeze the heck out of the sides or allow the phone to move around and if you hit the gas... there goes your phone!

Save your money and buy the real unit for the same price. I learned my lesson the hard way.

5Couldn't work better!  Apr 30, 2009 By Kristen M. Driscoll "Movie Guru"
This product is everything I asked for. It works wherever I am, whenever i'm moving out of a particular area, I may have to change the station based on the radio signals, but it takes seconds, and is common with every FM transmitter.
Not only does this charge my iphone, but also plays all of my music clearly, the first one that i've ever found that was consistantly reliable. I had bought the FM transmitters years back from apple and after a few months they were crap. This stayed in the same shape, and consistantly gave me exactly what I wanted.
Recommend so highly, i'm getting another one for my friend as a gift.

1Too many flaws  Aug 16, 2009 By Walter Back
I bought this transmitter. After 1 week spending many hours trying to get it working, I threw it now in the trash.
Reasons:
1. The power connector always gets loose as soon as I turn even a slight corner. I tried all ways to fix it and finally bought a double outlet adapter and plugged that between the device and the car. That helped a bit, but still, a corner - a short power outage. A better designed plug or a possibility to stabilize the plug assembly would help very much.

2. The only frequency, I could get it to work acceptably, was 107.3. Since the unit powers on by default to 88.1, I had to turn the holder, so I can see the display, adjust the frequency to 107.3, turn the holder back - ouch- again a short power loss due to turning the plug and back we are where we started: at 88.1 - that alone makes the device unusable. The device should switch on with the last used frequency. Then, that problem would not exist at all.

3. I have an iPhone 3Gs, so I planned to use the hands free option. But, as soon as I plug in the small connector cable between the iPhone and the transmitter, the sound gets very hissed, the volume is reduced to a whisper and ... guess what: the sound of the phone call is so weak that neither me nor the called person could understand one word. We tried it also the other way around: getting called in the car - same result. That makes the phone option completely useless. I tried also without connecting the "phone cable" and using a bluetooth headset for the phone part. Bad idea: as soon as you switch over to Phone mode, i.e. you are answering a call or dialing, the transmitter seems to get switched off and the radio starts hissing with static electricity.

Summary: Once I got lucky and had been successful with tuning the transmitter in to 107.3, the sound quality was surprisingly great. However, as soon as the phone cable gets connected, the sound quality becomes unacceptable. Aside from that, the device has two major downfalls: unreliable powerconnector and the default frequency. If you are lucky and 88.1 is a good frequency for you, and you do not plan to use your iPhone for phone calls, you might be able to use it. In all other cases it is a waste of money. With just a few slight improvements (i.e. more reliable power connection and defaulting the frequency on power on to the last used frequency), the device would be very usable for listening to music. Still, the phone part needs a bit more rework.

3Mediocre transmitter, OK holder and charger.  Aug 25, 2009 By John Locke
This product has three jobs: Holder, Charger, and FM transmitter. It's adequate and may be good enough for the budget-conscious, but it does have several annoyances.

As a Charger:
Seems to work, no problems.

As a Holder:
The side clamps and bottom tabs are fully adjustable and accommodate my iPod's sleeve/case well. I keep the holder tilted back a little, and have had no problems with the iPod slipping out.
The long flexible, goose-neck is great for putting the iPod within reach but it slips, as does the friction ring on the power-plug. The unit does not always stay in position.

As an FM transmitter:
Couldn't get the presets to stick and it's impossible to see the transmitter display while driving. This is very annoying on trips that cover more than one broadcast area.

The sound quality is "AM" at best. Fortunately, the iPod's headphone jack is still accessible, so you can bypass the transmitter (to your car's aux port).

Pros:
-----
1) Adequate holder and charger, for the price.

2) Does not block the iPod's headphone jack.

3) Better than nothing as an FM transmitter. OK for most podcasts and audiobooks. Not so good for music.

Problems:
---------
1) The transmitter display is unreadable from the driver's seat -- especially if the iPod is positioned so its screen is readable.

2) The transmitter defaults to 88.1 MHz and the presets do not seem to work. This is a pain every time you start your car, if 88.1 MHz is not usable for you.

3) There is no (working) remote control. This means that you must look, and grab, at the unit to change FM frequency or start/stop/rewind the iPod. This is difficult and dangerous while driving.

4) The unit has two bright blue lights. These are a major annoyance for night driving -- especially away from city lights.

5) The unit does not position the iPod as well, or as firmly as, a good-quality mounting system.

6) The iPod is not stopped or paused when the car is shutoff or started.
